Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Update plus Release Date

No comments :

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the curved Galaxy Note 4 variant, currently runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

It won’t be that way forever though as a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update is already all but confirmed. With that in mind, we want to take a look at everything we know so far about the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update and of course, the highly anticipated Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 release date.

In September, Samsung announced two new GalaxyNote models including a Galaxy Note 4 variant dubbed Galaxy Note Edge. The Galaxy Note Edge specs include a curved Quad HD resolution display, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, a 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, a massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat, Google’s final version of Android 4.4 KitKat.
The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge won’t stick around on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, however. Those who picked up the curved version of the Galaxy Note 4 should get treated to their first major update in the coming weeks as Samsung works behind the scenes to deliver a brand new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating systemto owners of several Galaxy-branded devices including the Galaxy Note Edge.

Android 5.0 Lollipop will serve as the first major update for the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and it will help to make the expensive variant even more attractive in regions like the United States.
While we haven’t seen a ton of Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update details pour out in the days since Samsung’s first roll out, we’ve seen some, and those details help us to paint an initial picture of the Samsung Galaxy Note Note Edge Lollipop update and release. This roundup ropes in all of the key details that we’ve seen over the past few weeks and it should help to paint a clearer picture for those that are tuning into the upcoming roll out for the first time.

This is What the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Update Will Look Like

The Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update is still unconfirmed but thanks to SamMobile, we know that Samsung is working on it behind the scenes. The publication, notorious for leaking out Samsung software ahead of a public release, recently posted a video of the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 update in action. Unsurprisingly, the update looks a whole lot like the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update that’s leaked out in the past.
Keep in mind, while the site claims that Samsung’s made substantial progress with the update, there’s no telling if the software seen in the video above is the same software that will be released to the public. It’s a test build and test builds are often replaced by newer test builds.
We are confident that the Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop update will look, and feel, a lot like the software seen in the video. Samsung’s version of Android 5.0 Lollipop brings a number of big time changes though the biggest changes pertain to the TouchWiz apps that have been rebuilt to fit in with Google’s new Material Design. We expect it to be similar to the Galaxy Note 4’s Lollipop update.

Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0.1 Lollipop Update in Testing

Again, Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything yet but thanks to a series of leaks, we now know that the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge will not get Android 5.0. Instead, it should get Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, Google’s new version of Android 5.0 that recently rolled out to Nexus users and an update that’s started to land for owners of Motorola devices.

Android 5.0.1 is not a massive update, it’s a bug fixer aimed at squashing Android 5.0 Lollipop problems, but it’s the most logical move for Samsung. Android 5.0.1, in our experience, is far more stable than Android 5.0 Lollipop and that should carry over to Samsung’s devices. The Android 5.0.1 update for Galaxy devices won’t be identical to Google’s updates for Nexus smartphones and tablets but they will share some things in common. Namely, system-wide bug fixes.
This is a good thing for owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and it should help to make the device even more attractive as we head away from its release date in the United States and elsewhere.

Galaxy Note Edge Lollipop Release Date

The Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop release date remains unconfirmed though we do have some clues. Samsung recently announced that it would roll out a series of Lollipop updates including updates to the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, in early 2015. We doubt that the Galaxy Note Edge will edge out the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update so we would not be surprised if Samsung’s planning to push the Galaxy Note Edge update in the early part of nexr year.
SamMobile claims that Samsung’s making substantial progress on its release and that “given the pace at which the company has been making improvements in these early firmware, it should be ready to start rolling out these updates sometime next month.” In other words, we could see the update roll out sometime in January. This is not confirmed but it looks like we could be close.

Carriers Remain Silent

We’ve seen a number of carriers release updated Android update schedules and none of them list the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop release date. Only French carrier SFR has released Android 5.0 Lollipop details. SFR claims that the Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update will roll out in January but it makes no mention of the Galaxy Note Edge.
International carriers like SFR, Vodafone and Telstra typically confirm updates well in advance. And with a Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update all but confirmed for the near future, we will almost certainly see some of these carriers release details ahead of time. Perhaps some time in the next few weeks as Samsung makes progress in its testing.

U.S. carriers still aren’t saying about the Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update. (Verizon and U.S. Cellular have yet to release it.) And if they stick to the standard protocol, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge users will be in the dark up until the actual release dates. U.S. carriers, unlike international carriers, usually remain silent in the build up to a major Android update release.
Android update roll outs themselves tend to serve as the announcements. Samsung’s roll outs differ from region to region, carrier to carrier, so Galaxy Note Edge users will want to keep an eye out for information that comes directly from carriers themselves.
